Description
Two Chinese cinnabar boxes dating to the late 19th century. One box is rectangular and is carved with a scene of an elderly man pointing at a boy in a landscape. The other box is peach-form and is carved with a scene of a woman holding a lotus and a man holding a ruyi scepter accompanied by a deer in a landscape.
Dimensions for the boxes are: the rectangular box measures 3 3/4 inches tall X 5 1/2 inches wide, while the peach-shaped box measures 4 inches tall X 4 1/2 inches wide. All measurements are approximate.
Condition: There are multiple cracks in the lid of the rectangular box, including a possible area of repair. The peach-shaped box has several chips in the sides.
Provenance: From a Fredericksburg, Virginia collection.
