Description
ENGLISH COPPER LUSTRE HISTORICAL TRANSFER-PRINTED QUEEN CAROLINE CERAMIC JUGS / CREAMERS, comprising one having black transfer portrait of Caroline with "GOD SAVE / QUEEN CAROLINE" and a poem opposite regarding the court cases and her challenge to King George IV for being queen; and one with a red transfer design commemorating her death August 7 1821 as noted above the portraits on both sides. Unmarked. Staffordshire and other areas. Circa 1820. 3 3/4" and 4" H.
One undamaged, one with one shallow chip on interior of rim, less than expected wear to lustre and transfer designs on both.

Provenance: From the collection of Dr. Leonard and Mimi Levine, VA.
Catalogue Note: Caroline of Brunswick was married in 1795 to King George IV (then Prince of Wales), who was already illegally married to Maria Fitzherbert. She separated from George in 1806, but refused to divorce him and challenged her opportunity to be queen in 1820 which led to court cases and an overwhelming support of her from the country of Britain, but was cut short by her death following an illness in 1821.
