Description
Heinrich Windhausen, (German, 1857-1922), An oval portrait of a lady, depicted half-length facing to dexter, in foliate headdress, lace-trimmed black dress with pietra dura brooch, and off-the-shoulder cape, with Coat of Arms, Maltese Cross and date 1877, signed and dated 1881 lower left, with label verso of 'S. A. Arthur Pierre N. V. Anvers / Antwerpen', typewritten 'de Wasseige', 24.5 x 29.75, (62cm x 75.5cm), in original fluted cavetto-moulded oval gilt frame with laurel surround, (s/d).The de Wasseige family are a Belgian noble family with the rank and title of Jonkheer.
Condition
Square patch to canvas verso around 2/3 to 3/4 of the way down (in black part of dress). Minor retouching to paint surface at the point recto. Minor crazing. Cracks through frame, some losses.
