Item Details
Description
Pre-Columbian, Mexico, Guerrero, Mezcala, ca. 400 to 100 BCE. Three striking carved and string cut Mezcala stone works including a greenstone head with dark and light green inclusions, and a paler greenstone head with partially drilled eyes and a protruding nose and mouth - both perforated at the upper end for suspension or attachment - as well as a standing figure carved from a stone of blue-green hues with red cinnabar embellishing the recessed areas. A wonderful trio created by the ancients of the Americas with a bold penchant for minimalism. Size: standing figure and paler greenstone head measure 2.625" H (6.7 cm); case measures 8.25" L x 12.25" W (21 cm x 31.1 cm)

Provenance: private Stagecoach, Nevada, USA collection; acquired from 1985 to present from galleries such as Arte Primitivo, Art For Eternity, Butterfields and Riverbend Gallery
