Description
Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 2nd to 3rd century CE. A black stone intaglio, polished smooth on all faces, and then incised on its widest face with a motif of the bust of a bearded male wearing a tall headdress or crown. Around his head are letters and possibly a date. This was probably made to be set into a ring and maybe used as a seal. Size: 0.8" W (2 cm)
Provenance: Carlton Collection, Los Angeles, California, USA, acquired between 1965 and 1980
