Description
Chinese famille-rose porcelain refers to Chinese porcelain decorated with predominantly pink coloured enamel, made from colloidal gold, which was first used in the late Kangxi period. In early eighteenth century Chinese famille-rose was sometimes referred to as ‘fencai’ meaning foreign colour. This is An Exquisite and Magnificent hand-painted Antique Chinese Famille Rose Enamel Bowl, FOUR-CHARACTER SEAL IN UNDERGLAZE BLUE WITHIN A DOUBLE SQUARE. We have seen many pieces of fine eggshell porcelain over the years, but nothing of this extremely fine quality. The top 3 photos show the bowl held over a bright light. You can see that the porcelain is incredibly thin, and the translucence is stunning. The hand-painted enamel decoration is stunningly detailed. Includes with the bowl is its original fitted red silk storage box. Bowl measures 9 5/8" in diameter and stands 4 1/8" tall. Bottom nicely marked, as shown. Displays beautifully, with absolutely no chips, nicks, cracks, hairlines, stains, crazing, or hidden damage. Provenance: Sotheby's Hongkong Sale.
