A Japanese lacquer ornament or paper weight in the form of a mallet(kozuchi). Meiji period(late 19th to early 20th century. Decorated in gold and colored lacquer hiramaki-e and kirikane with florets and with simulated wood-grain ground in togidashi technique, the handle with nashiji. 5 3/4in(14.6 cm) long x 3 1/8in high. With colorful woven and tasseled cord. Near mint condition, with just a tiny bit of raised gold on one side of mallet
