Charles Koster, 1890, after Alphonse Marie De Neuville, "The Last Cartridge", Franco-Prussian battle scene, oil on canvas signed, dated and annotated "After De Neuville" lower left. Charles Koster was said to be a famous artist who was born in France and left under mysterious circumstances, taking a beautiful French woman with him, arriving in the U.S. and changing his name to "Charles Koster". While living in Truckee in the early 1890’s, Koster produce 3 large, well executed paintings, 2 of which depicted scenes from the Franco-Prussian war. Appx 30" x 45", frame 41" x 56". Very good original condition.
