Description
Antique Handmade Silver Dutch Cloth or Sewing Scissors. These are wonderful, early, 200 year old, handmade silver handled scissors from the Netherlands. The steel blades are hand forged as well as the silver handles and they are riveted together with two brass rivets per handle. One of the steel blades has a pointed end and the other has a blunt end, but bot are the same length. Also, they still cut and work perfectly. These scissors would have belonged to a very wealthy person when new and may have cost as much as 3 or 4 months salary for a working class person at the time. They have loops with handmade "S” hooks in them for a chain or ribbon to attach to so that these scissors may be worn to protect them from being stolen or otherwise disappearing.
The scissors are approximately 7.5 inches long. The hallmarks indicate that they were made in 1815 of 833 silver. All of the piecing and decorative details have been done by hand. The handles appear to have been cut from one larger piece of silver and not cast nor stamped. The scissors have not been buffed and monogrammed.
