Thomas Day Secretary With Mirrored Doors. c. 1850's. North Carolina. Day is believed to have made no more than four secretaries with mirrors. Mahogany veneer, poplar and pine as secondary woods. Excellent condition with very minor loss. Size with 2 pieces together is 95"h x 39" w x 21" d. Provenance: The Acacia Collection. Robert Reeves Art & Antiques - Atlanta, GA. Exhibited at The Telfair Museum of Art, Savannah GA. Lot includes a signed detailed attribution letter by Rodney Barfield dated April 2, 1990. Barfield is the noted author of Thomas Day, Cabinetmaker (Raleigh: N.C. Division of Archives & History, 1978) as well as the Acacia Historical Arts Inventory and Appraisal form. Est. $8,000-12,000.
