This lot consists of an Original Oil on Canvas Signed 'K. Malevich' and dated '23' in Cyrillic. This stunning piece of Cubism is done in the Russian Suprematist style of Kasimir Malevich (Russian, 1878 - 1938). One of the most important painters of the early 20th century, and is the father of Cubo-Futurism and ultimately the Russian Supremacist movement. In terms of early 20th century painting, Malevich is as significant as Picasso and Braque. This cubist painting is dated '23' (1923). Its detail in color and variation is masterfully done, and the image begs the imagination to form and reform hypotheses of the figures. It signals a nexus between the two art movements of which Malevich was so important. Nurtured during the Tsarist regime, Malevich was not favored later in his career by the Soviets, and was forced to paint pottery to earn a living prior to his death.
