Colorfully painted wood, iron fittings. Tibet, 19th cent.

Intricately painted box, dominated to a certain extent by wrought iron fittings, intendended for the storage of Buddhist treasures. Only the top is harmless, featuring depictions of multiple boys, two kneeling before magical, holy pearls with very young monks at their sides. On the front are two snow lions surrounded by peonies and lotus blossoms and once again, in the middle, these „wish-granting" pearls. The depiction on the back is the same, only that there are two powerfully painted tigers. On the narrower sides are kirttimukha masks with lion heads.

Condition report: Wear due to use; signs of aging that are, above all, prominent on the inside. On the whole, near original condition!
