Two rearing horses bronze sculpture
Item Details
Description
The bronze horse bucks onto its hind legs resisting a force the beholder cannot see. The horse kicks his forelegs into the air as he lets out a authoritative neigh of discontent. It balances upon a
sphere that is decorated with dragon-like legs. Serving man in war, mobility, productivity, agriculture, development of all kinds, the horse is by far one of the largest contributors to the enhancement of
our civilization. With such recognition and accomplishments, a vastand diverse trail of symbol meanings is sure to follow the horse’s rich history with humankind. Some that are seen in this sculpture are power, grace, beauty, nobility, strength and freedom. The sculpture was cast using the age-old method of lost-wax casting and stained with a brown patina finish for perpetuation.
antoine-louis barye (september 24, 1796 – june 25, 1875) was a French sculptor most famous for his work as an animalier, a sculptor of animals.born in paris, barye began his career as a goldsmith, like
many sculptors of the romantic period. after studying under sculptor francois-joseph bosio and painter baron antoine-jean gros he was in 1818 admitted to the école des beaux arts. but it was not until 1823,
while working for fauconnier, the goldsmith, that he discovered his true predilection from watching the animals in the jardin des plantes, making vigorous studies of them in pencil drawings comparable to those
of delacroix, then modelling them in sculpture on a large or small scale.
Bronze dimensions with marble base: Height 14 X width 13 inches. Weight: 18 lbs.
