Description
FRENCH BRASS SHELF CLOCK, brass movement with count wheel, marked "CHARTIER & MARCUS / MADE IN FRANCE / NO JEWEL / UNADJUSTED", with bell chime, housed in a rectangular wooden case on turned brass feet, with brass lattice and screen panels to side, back access door with paper label "JOHN WANAMAKER / Clock Repair Dept. / Phila., PA."; full brass and porcelain-panel face/dial with Roman numerals, with integral rooster/fowl crest, and below the dial an additional panel with "1756", porcelain center disc lettered "John Wanamaker / 15 DAYS". Pendulum present, with serial number "8748" matching one set of serial numbers to movement. Late 19th/early 20th century. 16" HOA, case 6 1/2" x 5" OA, face/dial 8" W.
Excellent condition, no apparent damage to case, dial center disc with flaking around key holes. Currently in working condition.
