Description
FRENCH JAPY FRERES CHINA-CASE SHELF CLOCK, brass movement with Japy Freres "GDE. MED. D' HONNEUR" mark, above "MADE IN FRANCE" and serial number 876352, with coiled gong, housed in blue-glazed porcelain case with gilt-painted scrolling decoration, enamel-painted courtship scene decoration in reserve under dial, signed "GARLE", with flanking enamel-painted reserves above the brass feet, additional ormolu scrolling decoration, and two pairs of columns with Corinthian capitals flanking the domed-glass dial door, one foot marked "BLANPAIN"; porcelain dial with enamel-painted floral decoration, brass hands. Pendulum present, marked "THEIBLE". Fourth quarter 19th/early 20th century. 14 7/8" HOA, 15 7/8" x 6" OA.
Case with a flake to the top edge of the back, and another to the back edge above the proper left back foot; movement lacking chime strike. Not currently in working condition.
