This is the Harrison Smith & Robert Haas 1934 hardcover publication of Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley's classic, "Frankenstein, or the Modern Prometheus" (259 pages), with many woodcuts, full page and in-page, by Lynd Ward. The cover (app. 6.5" x 9.5"), beige background cloth with attached illustration to the front, attached title on the spine, is heavily worn, with fraying to the top and bottom ends of the spine, splits along the spine's sides, most prominently to the hinge at the back, bumped and slightly frayed outside corners, sunned borders, and a partly loose top layer to the spine. The front and back boards are securely connected. The illustration is in good condition. The inside is in much better condition. The only extraneous element is pencil writing to the front end page. This writing states that this is a signed copy, referring to Ward's signature on the half-title page. I'm not sure if this is an actual signature or a facsimile. If anyone has definitive information regarding this, I'd be glad to find out. There is no other writing. There are no stamps or other attachments. The binding is secure, with no loose or missing pages. All the illustrations are clean and unfaded. There are occasional small stains, but no stains of any prominence, and no stains of any kind to most page faces. There are spot stains, and one larger stain, to the black dyed page tops. There are a very few shallow edge tears, from pages having been poorly cut open, but this is also to a very few pages. All of these cuts are shallow. There are a few creases, all of which are also shallow.
