Florida is coloured yellow in common with British Canada and the Bahamas, indicating British territory which had been the case between 1763-1783 on which date it had reverted to Spain. However, the political borders as indicated by the colouring are not consistent across the map.

John Thomson (1777-1840) was a Scottish cartographer from Edinburgh, best known for his 1817 New General Atlas.
