Description

An Inuit Eskimo Spirit / Shaman mask. Carved by Henry Shavings (1924-2016, Nunivak Island, Alaska). Walrus tusk carved to depict a walrus face and attached to an oval baleen ring. Additional carvings embellish the outer ring. Artist signed on the reverse. Measures 8" high, 6.5" wide, 1.5" deep.
CONDITION NOTE: one carving from the ring is broken and one carved piece is missing. See photos.
PROVENANCE: From the Horace Willard "H.W" Nagley family collection.
