First Edition.
"This was the first book dedicated to fly fishing in America. The author wrote for the Albany Evening Journal. Scarce" - Bruns D 38; Westwood & Satchell p.77; Heckscher 606. Accompanied by an autograph letter signed by the author, two pages, presenting the book to Charles Reynolds, editor of Field & Stream, dated September 11, 1882: "Please accept the copy of "Pleasures of Angling" I send you by mail... I shall fill up some of my leisure time the coming autumn and winter, in writing on outdoor themes... The F. & S. deserves all the pleasant things that have been said of it..." Later address label of Earl Rosecrans, San Pedro, Cal., affixed to front flyleaf.
