19th Century. Wood, Leather, Silk. 8 1/2 inches long, 4 3/4 inches wide, 4 1/2 inches tall. This charming little treasure chest is made of a light wood, covered in tooled, or embossed leather. The base is trimmed with leather stitching all around. The interior is lined with red silk fabric. The chest is fitted with a lock and brass escutcheon, as well as two hinges at the back, but there is no key. The decorative covering depicts a windmill and two figures, believed to be the literary characters from Don Quixote. There are no signatures or dates.

The condition is quite good for its age. The interior lining has been damaged by age and wear, and the leather has shrunk in places, or has been lost in small bits along edges, as would be expected. All metal parts are intact and work well. No breaks.
