A CONTINENTAL NEOCLASICAL MARQUETRY INLAID MIXED WOOD CYLINDER TOP DESK, PROBABLY ITALIAN, MID 19TH CENTURY, the rectangular breakfront top over a cylinder lid centering an inlaid oval reserve with beribboned helmet, canon, battle ax, drum, flag, and draped swag within lappet inlaid stiles, opening to an interior fitted with four string inlaid drawers centering a single cupboard door, over a pull out slide centering a gilt tooled inset leather writing surface, above three line inlaid breakfront drawers with central inlaid ribbon detail above gilt bronze leafy oval escutcheons within circular drawer pulls, flanked by line inlaid sides and lappet inlaid stiles, raised on square tapered legs. Some faded spots and general wear to the finish mostly on the top, some chips and losses of veneer and inlay, which includes some wood and filled repairs, some minor cracks throughout the veneer, and some loss of the green dye on the leather top, but otherwise in good to very good condition, wear commensurate with age and use.
