Description
This rare pattern was developed for the German mounted huzzars and has a distinctive large iron stud and ring mounted on the bottom of the buttcap. For a nearly identical example, see plate 31 on page 262 of "Battle Weapons of the American Revolution" by George C. Neumann. Round barrel with groove in tang and brass front sight. Flat banana lockplate with concave groove in tail, center marked with "POTZDAM MAGAZ" arsenal name, features a detached pan. Standard heavy cast brass pattern 1742 furniture, including serpentine flat sideplate with three screws, buttcap with relief border and diamond-shaped cap on bottom, and oval wrist escutcheon engraved with large crown and "FR" monogram for Frederick Rex (Frederick the Great). Full length walnut stock with relief carved panels around the lock, sideplate, ramrod entry ferrule and the barrel tang. It also features carved moldings along each side of the forend and a brass band near the muzzle. Excellent condition, barrel and lock retain a brownish-grey patina with some scattered areas of freckling and some wear at muzzle and breech, markings are very good. Lock is in original flintlock configuration. Brass retains a mellow patina and wrist escutcheon engraving is excellent. Stock shows some light wear and scattered marks, otherwise excellent. This is a great example of a scarce Hessian Revolutionary War pistol.Accessories : NoBarrel Length: 14-3/8"Caliber/Bore: .69 SmoothboreFFL Status: AntiqueManufacturer: PotsdamModel: Pattern 1742Paperwork : No Serial Number: NSN
