Eva Zeisel, an extremely rare Prototype Teapot, never produced, and with later bail handle made according to Zeisel’s original drawing, intended for the Museum Service, Castleton China, New Castle, PA, designed 1945. Unmarked. H. 9 1/8 in. 1620-154

Note: The design is one that Zeisel filed for in 1946 and which was assigned to Castleton (US Patent des. 148,900); a design drawing for this prototype teapot dated June 6, 1945 and with the company stamp 'Eva S. Zeisel Industrial Designer / 431 Riverside Drive New York City' is held by the Cooper-Hewitt Museum (1994-11-4). Castleton chose to use the design shown in lot 77.
