Description
John Egan (active ca. 1804–1841), first quarter 19th century. A Regency gilt and polychrome decorated seven pedal harp having a fluted column headed with a relief decorated band of griffins holding a lyre. Inscribed "John Egan No.25 Dawson St. Dublin". Approximate height 68", width 30.5", base depth 17.25". Note: Egan, who is thought to have made instruments from the late 1700s until about 1840, is seen by many as the father of the modern Irish harp.
Condition
Harp is in need of restoration. Cording has been used for strings. Missing pedals. There are two missing bridge/tuning pins. Significant losses to molding and decorative elements. Scratches and losses to polychrome detail.
