Description
Irish or English, circa fourth quarter 18th century. A very fine Georgian cut glass and gilded metal twin light wall sconce, headed with urn finial, drop hung canopy an spire upper shaft; the notched arms hosting a a circular candlecup with a Vandyke-collared rim and petal cut bobeche hung with faceted prisms, a strand of faceted drops cascading from the canopy to bobeche, the whole terminating in gilded pineapple with oval backplate. Approximate height, width, depth. Note: Almost matching sconce in the "English Galleries" in the Metropolitan Museum, NYC. Provenance: Purportedly purchased from Otto Zenke for the Private Collection of the Owner of Chelsea House.
