Description
A gorgeous engine turned sterling silver and gold gilt case, featuring sinuous line work that is a precursor for the Art Nouveau era. This silver piece measures 4-1/2 inches by 3-1/4 inch and is 3/8 of an inch in depth. It is great for carrying around small personal items, or papers. The piece has a highly ornate front, with foliage and curved line-work. The central area of the gilt gold band, where a monogram would typically go, remains unmarked. The engine turned work is really nice, with a few but minimal scratches on the surface- these are normal for its age. The case could make a great gift with a personal engraving or initials. This case is made in Vienna, Austria and has a date mark of 1867. It features some interior silver marks (marked for 800 silver) and makers marks as well as a letter P for its city of production- Pest. This case shows some incredible craftsmanship, which you do not see today and on any silver work. A beautiful gift for a man or a woman, this is a distinguished and elegant personal object to gift or to own.
