Item Details
Description
An extremely rare informational pamphlet handed out to President John F. Kennedy aboard the U.S.S. Oriskany for the June 6-7, 1963 Navy and Marine Corps Atlantic Fleet exercises. 8.5 x 4.5''. Accompanying this pamphlet is a 8 x 10'' official photograph of the President standing on a platform beneath the carrier's island, reminding sailors of the crucial role they had played in the Caribbean less than eight months before. It was in this speech that JFK reiterated the importance of the Navy:

"Control of the seas means security. Control of the seas means peace. Control of the seas can mean victory. The United States must control the sea if it is to protect our security."
