In the last days of the Kennedy White House residency, Jackie Kennedy hand wrote several note cards, edged in black mourning, to every individual White House staff member, be they full-time or part-time who worked in the White House and served her husband. To ensure that no one was forgotten Mrs. Kennedy wrote out several cards more than were necessary.
