Six Antique Japanese Meiji Era Kutani Bowls. The bowls features a hand painted and gilt decorated Daikokuten and child. All are signed. Purchased at the Oriental Bazaar in Tokyo in the 1950-60s and notated as 80 years old at that time. All still with the original paper sticker. Each 6.25"x6.25"x1.50". Weight 4 pds. Overseas customers began visiting the shop to catch glimpses into the everyday life of old Japan. Extremely popular with the foreign embassies and dignitaries, it enjoys continued success to this day. In Japan, Daikokuten, the god of great darkness or blackness, or the god of five cereals, is one of the Seven Lucky Gods. Daikoku is considered to be the god of wealth, or of the household, particularly the kitchen. He enjoys an exalted position as a household deity in Japan. He is recognised by his wide face, smile, and a flat black hat.
