Tobacco in Song & Story 1896, First Edition. H M Caldwell Co., New York, NY, 1896. Hardcover. First Edition. This is a hardcover book without a dust jacket (as issued) . The cover is brown suede with slight cushioning and a gilt title with gilt decorative tobacco leaves and an emblem flourish. The gilt is bright, the suede is clean with barely any wear. . The book has been well cared for. The interior pages are clean. There are small black and white in-text illustrations. The top edges of the pages are gilt. The first chapter is by Sir Walter Raleigh. Other chapters are The Discovery of Tobacco, A Few Words about Tobacco, Origin of Tobacco, and the Philosophy of Smoking. There are sayings, poems, and writings by some known writers and other aficionados. Gift condition. 6.75"x4.50"x1" Weight 10 oz. PROVENANCE: A Charleston SC Private Estate.
