Item Details
Description
A striking dish featuring the contrast of rust red and deep cobalt blue. Delicate hand painting on a well potted porcelain.
Porcelain Japanese saucer dish with an over glaze red enamel foliate rim that slopes to an inner well. The rim has gilt designs of peonies, scroll, and leaves painted over the red enamel. The white inner well is a delicately painted design of a crane that is about to land through the clouds. The crane is painted in underglaze cobalt blue. The back of the dish is painted with cobalt clouds and Buddhist symbols. The foot rim is a unglazed but the base is glazed.
There is a red painted circle with a gilt mark "Eiraku" on the base.
MEASUREMENTS: 6 ¼" diameter x 1 1/8" tall. Weighs 8.9 oz
CONDITION: There is slight wear to the central well. The gilding on the rim is in great shape and not worn. There are no chips, cracks, or breaks. It rings true.
The dish has so many things going for it: beautiful colors, delicate painting, foliate rim and masterful potting.
