Description
ink and colors on paper, first Tsukiji Honganji Temple in the Evening, 1936, signed on lower right hand side "Hasui" with red "Sui" seal, Watanabe publisher's seal in right hand margin, this print depicts the quiet moon in the night sky over the Tsukiji Honganji Temple with its Indian stone design that combines Buddhist, Hindu, and Islamic architectural styles, the blues of the sky are reflected onto the stone building make it a quiet serene scene, and second Takkoku Cave, 1936, signed on lower left hand side "Hasui" with red "Sui" seal, Watanabe publisher's seal in right hand margin, this print depicts a temple built in a rock wall of a cliff during the Heian period (794-1185) to commemorate the victory of the Japanese government over the indigenous people of northern Japan, the original temple burned down many times and the current building was built in 1961 to reflect the Kiyomizu temple in Kyoto, both prints are presented loose.
