Description
Rising day allegorical bronze figure descending night, were originally designed as fountain figures for the 1915 panama-pacific international exposition in San Francisco. Following the exhibition, Weinman reproduction both works in two sizes, one measuring approximately 25 inches tall and the other approximately 57 inches. Examples of rising day are in the collections of the Cleveland museum of art and the Smithsonian American art museum. Weinman works are mostly in a sort of lyrical classical style. His figures typically are found wearing Greco-roman clothing, but there is a fluidity found in his work that is a harbinger of the art deco style that was to follow him.
