Giant Horse of Oz by Ruth Plumly Thompson First Edition

Description

1st ed./2nd state Giant Horse of Oz by Ruth Plumly Thompson, 1928 First edition/second state (damaged “r” on p. 116, line 1) and “Oniberon” on frontispiece caption. All 12 color plates present. The 22nd book in the famous Oz series. There are forty recognized books in the Oz series. The creator of the series, L. Frank Baum, wrote the first fourteen books. Upon his death, children’s author Ruth Plumly Thompson was tapped to write the next nineteen books. Seven other Oz books followed written by other writers, including three by the series’ longtime illustrator, John R. Neill. This first edition shows considerable wear with the two lower tips showing and one of the top tips just starting to show through. Front joint cloth has a 4” split, although the hinges are secure (front hinge just a tiny bit wobbly at top). Foot of spine with some fraying; head of spine worn. Cover pastedown color has faded and there’s obvious wear. Rear cover with some areas of light discoloring. Mild toning to pages. All color plates present with the plate opposite p. 64 showing repaired tiny edge tears plus one rough repair at top near gutter (this plate is somewhat rough compared to the others). 283 pages. 7 x 9.25. Fair to good.
