Description
**First Time At Auction**

New World, Native American, Santa Clara Pueblo, New Mexico, ca. late 20th to early 21st century CE. An incredibly charming pottery figure of a lizard with wonderful black-on-black designs against a lustrous ground. The figure is signed "Merton & Linda" for Linda and Merton Sisneros, a married couple who both come from a long line of talented potters. The triangular motifs included in their designs symbolize the three generations of potters in their family. Linda and Merton Sisneros are among the few Santa Clara potters who continue to create black-on-black traditional pottery. Merton Sisneros has won numerous awards for his creations, including the Award of Excellence in Figurative Clay from the Southwest Indian Art Fair. Size: 7.25" L x 3.125" W (18.4 cm x 7.9 cm)
