Mark McGwire (1963- ) First Baseman. McGwire was considered one of the most powerful hitters in the history of the game. In 1998 he set a major league record for most home runs in a season (70), breaking Roger Maris’s mark of 61. He was the Rookie of the Year in 1987, while playing for the Oakland A’s and hitting 49 home runs. He clubbed 583 home runs during his 16-year career. His legacy was tainted shortly after his retirement as a result of speculation that he had taken performance-enhancing drugs during his playing days. Official game-used American League baseball which was hit for his first major homerun of the 2000 season. He has signed on the “sweet-spot”, noted on a side panel “Mark McGwire’s 1st Home Run Ball April 8, 2000 Busch Stadium 6th vs. Jim Bruske”. Includes documentation from authenticator, PSA.
