Cecil B. De Mille (1881-1959) Filmmaker, screenwriter. De Mille helped to establish Paramount Pictures and co-directed his first film, The Squaw Man, in 1914. He built a reputation as a legendary filmmaker with lavish epics like Cleopatra, Samson and Delilah and two versions of The Ten Commandments. 8 ½” x 11” typed letter signed, Cecil B. DeMille Productions Inc., July 16, 1936, to Walter F. Ellis.. “…Replying to your letter…in which you state that Dr. James Henry Larson has approached you…to interest you in the production of religious subjects. The pictures of this type that I have made have been very satisfactory both ethically and financially…Such pictures as THE TEN COMMANDMENTS and THE SIGN OF THE CROSS have thoroughly demonstrated the world-wide interest tht exists in the filming of religious subjects….”
