Description
King George II (1683-1760) British monarch. George possessed sound political judgment, however, his lack of self-confidence caused him to rely heavily on his ministers, most notable of whom was Sir Robert Walpole. He reined from 1727 until his death and William Pitt, 1st Earl of Chatham (1708-1778) British statesman. Pitt is best known as the wartime political leader of Britain in the Seven Years' War, especially for his single-minded devotion to victory over France, a victory which ultimately solidified Britain's dominance over world affairs. 13 ½” x 9 ¾” vellum document signed, August 27, 1739. The document is an appointment of First Lieutenant James Stewart, Gent as a Captain in the Regiment of Light Infantry.
