From the opening paragraph: "We were in Kodaikanal, in the year 1943-44. A group of about thirty-five trainees from remote corners of India and Ceylon had come together with one aim: to receive light from Dr. Montessori on the powers of the child and his task in the evolution and progress of human society. It was a unique year in the history of Montessori Movement. For the first time in her life Dr. Montessori was giving an Advanced Course to train teachers who could establish High Schools on Montessori lines. The most important feature of this Course was the unfoldment of the Cosmic Plan at work in the universe and the special mission of Man and the Child in the work of this Plan. It was a detailed revelation of Dr. Montessori's philosophy and her concept of Cosmic Education. These lectures had created a sentiment of deep devotion for Dr. Montessori in the hearts of these students and every one of them was filled with fervour to work for the cause of the child and for Montessori Movement in India. The Moment was propitious. There was faith, devotion and fervour in the minds of this small diverse group of people. There was the guiding light of Dr. Montessori. And the were the magic surroundings of Kodaikanal, this fairy-land hill-station of majestic beauty, grandeur and splendour.
