(8vo) 21.5x13.5 cm (8½x5¼") superbly bound by Bayntun in a Cosway-style binding of full blue crushed morocco, front cover with an elaborate grapevine and gilt rule border surrounding and inset watercolor portrait of William Blake, rear cover with gilt-rule borders and a simpler grapevine device in gilt at center, spine in six compartments with tall gilt-topped raised bands dividing, two compartments lettered with the title and author's name, the other four with gilt grape devices, gilt-ruled dentelles with decorative corner devices, moire silk doublures and endleaves, two attached ribbon bookmarks, all edges gilt. Housed in a custom blue morocco and cloth drop-front clamshell box with gilt-lettered spine. Box by Albert Oldach & Son of Philadelphia. First Edition.
A superb example of Cosway-style bindings. This volume last appeared at auction in 1974 at Sotheby's, The Library of Gordon A. Block, Jr.
