Description
Framed watercolor and colored pencil by Santa Fe, New Mexico artist George Stanley (19th / 20th century, fluent circa 1890s). The painting is signed by the artist and dated 1897, lower right. Sight measurement 10-3/8" x 14". Framed and matted under glass, 18.5" x 22".
The painting is drawn from an 1879 photograph "Dancer's Rock, Walpi", Arizona by John. K. Hillers (1843-1925). Walpi is a Hopi Indian village located in northeastern Arizona.
NOTE: George Stanley was the first Caucasian studio artist in Santa Fe, New Mexico, setting up a studio in 1897.
