Description
1865 1st ed Life of General Kilpatrick American CIVIL WAR Cavalry GETTYSBURG

“General Kilpatrick’s decision to launch a mounted assault on Farnsworth’s cavalry [at Gettysburg] has been characterized by historians as reckless, fruitless, tragic, ill-conceived, and doomed.” – Snell, Hell of a Damned Fool

Hugh Judson Kilpatrick was a Union Army general during the Civil War. This work is first-hand account of his military work, including cavalry raids and various operations under his leadership. Written by a civil war field surgeon, this work exposes some of the reckless decisions made by Kilpatrick, whose victories were (and still are) often despised by southerners because of how he devastated homes, towns, and innocent lives. His recklessness was known as ‘Kilcavalry’ (or ‘Kill-Cavalry’)

This book covers major battles, such as the Battle of Gettysburg, all the way down to the smallest of skirmishes. It is beautifully illustrated with 12 steel engravings depicting battles scenes and important events such as:

Battle of Big Bethel; Death of Lieut. Greble
Death of Colonel Davis; Battle of Beverly Ford
Kilpatrick at Brandy Station
Cavalry Charge at Gettysburg; Death of General Farnsworth
Kilpatrick wounded at Resaca
And more.
