Antique Blackinton Sterling Silver Coverly Serving Set

Item Details

Description

A beautiful sterling silver Blackinton 3-piece serving set, made at the turn of the century in the De Coverly pattern with poppies along the handle. The meat fork, fish knife and tomato spoon server have all been beautifully hand-reticulated. The handles, front and back, have been decorated with poppy flowers with curling leaves, a design made by Edwin E. Codman in 1905. At the finial there is a blank oval at both sides, where a monogram can be etched. The foliage and decorative elements flow nicely up and down the entire servers, creating a nice overall decorative look. They are an elegant set of silver servers displaying many of the distinct organic patterning of the Art Nouveau era. The silver has minimal use and all servers are in great condition. They are each marked sterling and Blackinton, with the original B pierced by a sword trademark that was used the early 1900. The total weight of three servers is 280 grams, or approximately 9 troy ounces. The fork measures 8 inches, the knine 9-1/2 inches and the serving spoon 8 inches. The Blackinton Silvercompany was founded by Walter Ballou and Roswell Blackinton at North Attleboro MA in 1862 and continued as R. Blackinton & Co. until 1967. They are known for their outstanding and high quality silver work.
