Belgian 835 Silver Snake Handled with Face Pitcher

Item Details

Description

A wonderful silver pitcher of classical design, with repeating leaf motifs, floral patterning and beading at the top. It has a classic baluster form. On the handle is the face of a classical female beauty- a snake like handle extends from the top of her head suggesting the mythological qualities of the figure. The ewer is raised on a foot and has a silver maker's mark at the base, on the handle. This piece of silver is in excellent condition. It displays a mix of greek patterning and other classical designs that were valued in the late 19th Century. Stamped at 835; It has a weight of 15.63 troy ounces. It is 8 3/8" tall by 6 1/2" wide with the round base being 2 7/8" wide.
