Admiral Byrd’s Ice-Breaker “Bear” Signed Amory "Bud" Waite

This black and white photograph features an image of the ice-breaker Bear with at least one other sailing vessel behind it. Inset is a portrait of Admiral Byrd in cold weather gear. The photograph bears the typed caption, “Admiral Byrd’s Ice-Breaker “Bear” and a handwritten inscription reading, “Best regards to Mr. & Mrs L.J. Duchane from ‘Bud’ Waite L.A. 1934-5.” Taped to the reverse is a short news clipping announcing, “Congress to honor Amory H. Waite.” Amory “Bud” Waite was the radio operator on Byrd’s second Antarctic Expedition, 1933-35. Photo measures: 5” x 7”
