Description
“Sisyphos”, bronze by Paul Leibkuchler, 26”high.Outsanding bronze by one of German's great sculptors. Gladenbeck foundry marks, Berlin.Numbered:"4357".Signed: "Leibkuchler Fec".From Wikepedia:"Sisyphos was the king of Ephyra (now known as Corinth). He was punished for his self-aggrandizing craftiness and deceitfulness by being forced to roll an immense boulder up a hill, only to watch it come back to hit him, repeating this action for eternity. Through the classical influence on modern culture, tasks that are both laborious and futile are therefore described as Sisyphean."Although originally a Greek myth, Leibkuchler has translated the parable to a magnificent masculine homage to strength, the musculature of the athletic form articulated to show the great burden of the task.Leibkuchler also incorporates the art deco use of geometry by incorprating the use of a triangle in the overall form and the rectangular shape of the cloth he wears around his waist.
