Description
Rome, Imperial Period, ca. 2nd to 4th century CE. "Hakuna matata" it means "no worries"! A very rare ceramic votive figure depicting a standing boar/warthog, probably created as an offer to bring about a successful hunt, or to be used as a child's toy - though this piece clearly pre-dates Pumba's fabulous song from "The Lion King". The wild pig is presented with its characteristic large head, pronounced snout, crest along the back, pointed ears, and curved tusks. Adding to its character are the bristly hairs delineated on its coat and that endearing curly tail. Lucite mount. Size: 6.5" W x 4.25" H (16.5 cm x 10.8 cm); 4.625" H (11.7 cm) on stand
