Pre-Columbian, Guerrero Region, Mezcala culture (Balsas culture), modern day Mexico, ca. 700 to 200 BCE. A delightful carved greenstone pendant modeled in an abstract hummingbird form which features two shallow carved eyes, a protruding body with a miniscule flat base and a hole bored through the chest to feed a piece of string or hide through and wear as a necklace. The rich blend of light and dark green marbling throughout the stone exhibits a sense of dynamism and movement that brings this inanimate avian artifact to life. A charming example of ancient stonework! Size: 1.9" L x 1.45" W x .75" H (4.8 cm x 3.7 cm x 1.9 cm).
