Description
**First Time At Auction**
Greece, Magna Graecia, southern Italy, Apulia, ca. 340 to 325 BCE. A red-figure plate on a raised ring foot featuring a "Lady of Fashion" wearing a saccos (head scarf) with pearl strands and hair pins, a drop earring, and a pearl necklace. Her profile head is encircled by a stylized wave-like pattern comprised of dotted S motifs, with tongues around the edge of the rim. In addition to the skillfully rendered red-figure painting, the artist added lovely white fugitive paint. The black decoration has gained nice iridescence, particularly on the underside. Size: 6.5" W x 1.25" H (16.5 cm x 3.2 cm)
Provenance: private German collection acquired before 2000
