Description
A nice Roman discus lamp depicting Victory (Nike), late 1st – 2nd Century AD, the goddess floats left wearing long chiton, holding a wreath and palm, basket before and a shield behind, two raised protrusions to either side of the discus, rounded nozzle and ring handle; on bottom a low ring base with illegible maker’s mark within. L: 4 ½ in (11.4cm), D: 3 1/8 in (8cm). An attractive example with light deposits. Ex collection of Lawrence Buchanan and Dr. Enrique von Kiguel, formed throughout the 1970's-80's.
